Removing grub with vista
The software itself does a lot of things. Note:- installing vista again on a linux hard drive will erase the GRUB installation and access to linux. Well, the feature that I'm going to outline in this post is about how to uninstall linux without loosing your windows installation. This can be for a number of reasons such as people could be unsatisfied with the current linux installation or want to install a different one in future.
That should re-install the vista bootloader and erase the GRUB. Then you can format the linux drive or do whatever you want even install the same or another distro. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next. Click Repair your computer. Click the operating system that you want to repair Vista in this case , and then click Next.
Once in the command prompt, type exactly Bootrec. You will see "operation completed successfully. In my case, it remembered my settings re: my original dual-boot setup with Vista x64 being first and XP being second on the boot menu list. Hope this is helpful for those like me who tinkered with Ubuntu and found it too much hassle to play with, or other cases where you simply need to get rid of GRUB and have Vista installed.
Sorry it didn't work out. Thanks and no biggie--I'll give the next release a whirl and I bet that all the kinks will have been worked out by then judging by how nice 7. I do have one Question How can I restore the grub boot loader easily if I wanted to switch it back? Is this known to work with Vista? Oh damn. Anyway Vista is much better about fixing itself than XP was, especially if its just a simple boot code problem.
That recovery CD should work well :D. OK, I am going to log out of bart pe was trying to fix another laptops MBR errors with it, but couldn't and in another win xp machine to try to download that recovery iso. Hey: I do this all the time. Are you using Vista? The version doesn't matter. This puts in a standard windows mbr. Delete Linux partitions. How do you install it on a Vista installation that will not boot? I ran the tool, did the first one, and i got a clean bill of health the first time.
No problems were detected. And it still gives me a grub loading error If you are getting a Grub error then the MBR has not been repaired. Have you tried repairing it with a SuperGrub CD? Then you can boot into Vista. OK, i am in super grub cd now. I am going by the super grub wiki,and i got to the point where t says fix boot of windows under advance.
Yes, the fix boot of Windows is what you want to do. This will overwrite and remove Grub.
